Product Review: IYING 12″ Mirror Dash Cam With Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto

Today, we’re taking an in-depth look at the IYING 12″ Mirror Dash Cam that boasts Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. This device is far more than just a mirror or camera for your car, it’s a game-changer in terms of in-car tech for retro cars.

Specifications

Let’s start with the specifications. The star attraction here is the CarPlay and Android Auto capability, which brings a smarter, safer way to use your phone in the car. Functions include streaming media rearview, loop recording, video time lapse, night vision and many others.

The dash cam offers three ways of playing sound: through the built-in speaker, via FM radio, or with Bluetooth. Its front and rear lens comes equipped with WDR technology and supports multi-level 3D denoising. It comes with a 32GB TF card, but its memory can be expanded up to 256GB. The display supports split screen for simultaneous viewing of front and rear images and it features hands-free voice control.

Performance

We found the video quality of cameras impressive, capable of delivering clear and sharp images, even in low-light conditions. However, the touchscreen’s visibility during daylight could do with some improvements.

The connectivity to Bluetooth and CarPlay was extremely easy. But several of our team members reported inconsistencies with Android Auto and a delay while operating Waze. The auxiliary connection only working partially was also an issue we noticed.

Moreover, some users experienced difficulty in connecting to Bluetooth car speakers and setting up the rearview camera due to short cable length. A rare issue we encountered was the device shutting off after short usage. Yet, dealing with a problem of time resetting to January 1 if the car wasn’t used for 2-3 days indicated there is room for software optimization.

The Verdict

To sum up, the IYING Mirror Dash Cam is a unique blend of technology that can significantly up the ante of your retro car. Though it has a few hiccups, particularly with the Android Auto connectivity and screen visibility during the day, the pros outweigh the cons.

The mirror dash cam comes with an overwhelming array of smart functions and the sleek look of the unit blends seamlessly with your car. However, when considering buying this product, keep in mind that some adjustments and troubleshooting might be needed to make it function optimally in your specific car model.
