Master Tailgaters 10.5″ OEM Rear View Mirror with 4.3″ LCD Screen Review

As retro lovers, we always admire the aesthetics of the past, but we can’t resist the allure of modern tech. This is why we were excited to get our hands on the Master Tailgaters OEM Rear View Mirror with a 4.3″ LCD screen. We were impressed by how effortless it blended in with our classic cars while offering a taste of advanced technology.

The Master Tailgaters rear view mirror starts as a direct replacement for your original rearview mirror. It comes with a bracket that fits a good number of popular vehicles including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, GM, and more. The package also includes an all-vehicle windshield button style mount for those with a different make.

The main tech feature is the 4.3″ high brightness TFT LCD screen which automatically lights up to display the rear view when the car is in reverse. A built-in light sensor adjusts the screen’s brightness according to the ambient light for optimal visibility. This great detail adds to the device’s usability in different light conditions.

The rear view mirror has two video RCA inputs, enabling it to display two different types of images. This is great if you need to connect to a backup camera and another video source. This brings us to another point: the mirror plugs into most backup cameras with RCA inputs. Simply make sure you have a spare camera laying around or be prepared to get one.

The Master Tailgaters rear view mirror promises durability with its clear, distortion-free/warp-free 4mm thick glass. That said, installation might require the services of an expert in case you’re not familiar with the technicalities. Among the things we discovered during our testing is that you need to establish a connection to a rear tail lamp to activate the video, depending on the backup camera you’re using. The procedure might not apply to some mirrors, as some light up their display when the RCA cable picks up a video feed.

The Master Tailgaters rear view mirror is not immune to weaknesses. The green light, for instance, stays lit as long as the car is running, which seems unnecessary, considering it’s meant to be a backup light. This can be particularly annoying if you, like us, prefer an untainted aesthetic.

On the upside, the picture quality is top-notch, giving a brighter display compared to other mirrors on the market. The picture quality remains consistent despite changes in light due to the automatic brightness adjuster.

Finally, one thing that stands out about this device is its seamless integration. After installation, it looks as if it came from the factory with the car. Its OEM appearance and functionality had us fooled multiple times, and we were quite satisfied with its performance.

In recap, the Master Tailgaters 10.5″ OEM Rear View Mirror with a 4.3″ LCD screen is an excellent blend of the old and new. It fits well into retro aesthetics while delivering modern utility. Despite its few shortfalls, it remains a practical and stylish addition to any retro ride.
